Attention Homeschool Parents

What if your child could improve their writing & comprehension skills

just by reading, and without any homework?

With the right books & narration skills,

they CAN.

If you're like I was when I first started homeschooling, you may have asked yourself, "Am I ruining my kids?" or "Am I doing enough?"

Remember when you were excited to buy all that curriculum for your child,

but now you dread the piles of student & teacher textbooks and answer keys.

You feel like you want to throw in the towel.

Secretly you find yourself saying, "Maybe I should just send my child back to school."

Does this happen in your homeschool?

  • Your child doesn't remember what they've read
  • You've tried teaching narration to your children in the past, but the outcome wasn't their best work
  • Your child complains when it is time to write anything
  • You are frustrated because it's obvious they didn’t understand.

I know how painful it is to listen to your child struggle through a narration

because they don't know what to say.

You're sitting there thinking to yourself,

"I must be going about this the wrong way, because my child isn't getting it."

I understand where you are right now. I was there too.

I taught every subject and every lesson,

and my kids were getting a great school education at home,

but I was exhausted!

It took me nearly two years. Literally took me that long to make homeschooling easier on myself and my kids.

I searched and searched.

Where were the resources that would make this work for my family?

The textbooks were boring.

The topics were scattered around in no apparent order.

Before the kids knew it, there was a new topic to learn.

How can you expect kids to have a lasting understanding

with such an unconnected drive-by style of learning?

We needed a better way.

Then I found a way to homeschool with storybooks.

What!???

Yes. My kids could learn from wholesome, well-written stories.

Narration was the key!

Once my children learned to narrate,

they were finally spending time reading & exploring the eras in wonderful storybooks

while focusing on their interests.

They were gaining a lasting knowledge of the eras, people, & events.

We finally had the shorter and easier homeschool days I was searching for

through narration, and you can too!

IS THIS FOR YOU?

This is for you if:

  • You understand that the skill of narration takes time and practice to develop, and it is the foundation for the development of independent learning skills.
  • You want your children to learn their English/Language Arts by reading a variety of living books and diverse living books and staying for awhile in an era of history to gain a better understanding of what they are learning.
  • You want your children to increase their vocabulary by learning from context instead of random vocabulary words.

This is NOT for you if:

  • You believe your child needs to learn only from a textbook.
  • You want fill-in-the-blank busywork to build comprehension. Hint - this doesn't work! It only enforces studying to the test.
  • You want to keep up with the public and private school's writing programs for your child's grade while you homeschool. Trust me, oral narration is a form of writing, and leads to written work. Children who start with oral narrations generally move to written work easier, because they have the daily practice of forming sentences and creatively putting together well-thought-out narrations of what they've learned and can intelligently talk about the era or topic.

FAQs

What if my child can’t yet read? I don’t have time to read the lessons to him/her?

Younger children only need a few minutes a day to practice narration. Checkout the bonus

tips for multi-age learning!

What math program goes well with this system?

You are free to use any math curriculum of your choice. We've used several math programs over the years. The key is choosing a math program that compliments your child's learning style. Please feel free to contact me.

What do we do for science?

You can use any science curriculum. However, you can learn science through reading & narrating too. Add-in some films and videos about the topic and be sure to spend plenty of time outdoors doing nature study.

Why are the lessons so short?

We homeschool using a combination of the Classical Method & The Charlotte Mason. So we're what you call Eclectic. Charlotte Mason advocated short lessons, and I agree with this philosophy because with shorter lessons your child can focus and do their best work, instead of working through long lessons where their attention wanders. If they aren’t focused are they really even learning anything?

I am very busy homeschooling my kids. Is this worth the time it takes to implement?

Absolutely yes! If you show up and do the work, you will notice your children working more independently, which will give you time to work with your youngers who are not yet of shcool age, and your older children. You’ll find you also have more time for yourself during the day as your children develop their narration skills and as you implement more independent learning processes into your homeschool.

Will my child learn anything with these short lessons?

The habit of reading the book with focus, and the system they will learn with daily practice teaches them will gradually increase their comprehension and vocabulary throughout the course.
